Did you know?

Walk the Moon’s hit dance anthem “Shut Up and Dance” is the lead single from their second studio album, Talking Is Hard. The track, written by band members Ben Berger and Ryan McMahon is inspired by an experience that lead singer Nicholas Petricca had one night at a Los Angeles nightclub. He explained that the inspiration came to him when a girl suddenly invited him to dance. According to his story, she was wearing a backless dress and beat up old red Chuck Taylor sneakers, and literally told him at one point to shut up and dance with her. He envisioned the song as an anthem for letting go of frustrations and just having fun.

The songwriting powerhouses that are the band members for Walk the Moon penned more than 50 track for their second album. Obviously, not all of them made the final cut. Accroding to guitarist Eli Maiman, “Shut Up and Dance” was one of the last ones they wrote.
