Listen to Mark Ronson on Spotify
Did you know?
There is actually a reason why the song is called “Uptown Funk” and not “Downtown Funk”. They opted for the name since producer Mark Ronson is from the Upper West Side, whilst singer Bruno Mars is from the Bronx. Today, the music video for the song has been viewed more than 150,000,000 million times on YouTube and has hit No.1 in the U.S., the U.K., Australia, Ireland, Canada and New Zealand just to name a few. One country that apparently wasn’t a fan was Russia. “Uptown Funk” peaked at just 198 on the Russian charts!
Ronson explained the moment that he fuond out the song had hit the top of the charts. He said that he was walking down a street London when his manager texted him to tell him that “Uptown Funk” was the new No.1 single in the United States. He said in the interview that he then called Bruno, talked to him for a minute, then warned him that he was going to let out a primal scream right then and there out of sheer elation. He then cupped the phone to protect Bruno’s ears and screamed.
